Nothing Special, which borrows its name from Andy Warhol’s unfulfilled TV program, is an ever-evolving stage play written by Melanie Anne, comprised entirely of found text.
It began in 2016 as a one-woman-show, with Melanie Anne starring as Warhol’s most iconic Superstar, Edie Sedgwick. Set in Edie’s bedroom, she prances, dances, and stretches in front of the audience as she chatters about society and drugs. The atmosphere is meant to feel like Warhol’s Factory parties, aka “Happenings,” with an open bar and tinfoil on the walls that guests are welcomed to draw on.
After touring throughout Los Angeles and New York City, Melanie Anne expanded the show, casting Aparna Brielle and Kristin Couture to share the stage and role with her in 2023. The revamped production featured live music by indie band The Split Manics and was directed by Allisyn Snyder.
The scale of both the show and party increased, featuring Allisyn’s artwork on the foiled walls, a new dress-up theme for each Happening, and screen tests — a Warhol tradition where the subject is invited to simply exist in front of a camera.

In 2024, Melanie Anne continued to evolve the script, re-writing it for a third time, incorporating quotes from Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, and expanding the cast even further. The new adaptation followed Edie Sedgwick as Alice, exploring the dizzying nightmare of Warhol’s underground film scene.
This iteration consisted of 3 scenes that looped in various rooms, allowing the audience to experience the story in any order, and featured Allisyn Snyder as Warhol / The Mad Hatter, Dylan Snyder as Chuck Wein / The Caterpillar, Tatiana Paris as Ingrid Superstar / The Queen, Joey Luthman as Billy Name / The King, and Jacob Houston as Ondine / The Cheshire Cat.
Nothing Special In Wonderland featured a slew of Los Angeles creatives, with indie rock trio Heebie and the Jeebies headlining the first weekend, and high energy funk group Cook the Band the second weekend. Closing night featured a jazzy Christmas set by Ron Blakely as the Factory’s Silver Santa. In addition to Allisyn’s artwork on the foiled walls, new artists were welcomed to the Factory including Sigfried Echo Hemming, Ethan Mitchell, Chico Feinstein, Justin Lewsadder, and Violet Rivera.

Nothing Special birthed the Factory Superstars, the Los Angeles-based multimedia artist collective who have gone on to launch Factory Magazine.
